Building a Membership Website in HubSpot

Finding a membership management platform that’s easy to use and integrates seamlessly with your website can be a challenge. Thankfully, HubSpot has an excellent CRM and a top-notch CMS that are seamlessly integrated allowing you to manage your prospective, past and current members at ease, showing each of them the content that is available to them based on their membership level.

HubSpot as a CRM Platform

HubSpot, at its core, is a CRM platform. HubSpot’s CRM capabilities connect contacts, companies, tasks and deals and allows you to add properties to your contacts to keep track of membership status, renewals, and more. You can build, manage, and automate contact lists based on any property, including those date properties that are essential for managing renewals.

HubSpot Marketing Automation to Manage Renewals

Using HubSpot’s marketing automation workflows and active lists, you can queue up membership renewal reminders. You can also monitor how your members are engaging with your website, emails and social media content and if you notice that your members aren’t engaging with your content, you can set workflows that are triggered based on behavior (or lack thereof) to drive re-engagement campaigns.

Process Membership Dues in HubSpot

HubSpot’s new native payments integrations allows you to set up one time and recurring payments for your memberships, helping you to maintain your memberships year over year.

Member Only Website Content

Your HubSpot CMS website can be used for both your recruiting website and your members only content. Easily set the privacy permissions of any given page in the webpage, landing page or blog post by going to the “Settings” and changing the audience access to be publicly available, password protected, or limited to members only.

HubSpot Subscriptions Required for Membership Access

Using HubSpot to manage your members-only website requires HubSpot CMS Enterprise for private content for blog posts, landing pages and website pages.

If you want to use the Knowledge Base to house member-only articles (such as if you have a help resource for your active clients) you’ll want to use Service Hub Professional or Enterprise.

To manage billing with HubSpot Payments you’ll need to have a U.S. premium edition of HubSpot with Quote functionality in Sales Hub. HubSpot Payments is currently a beta feature.

Is HubSpot an Affordable Membership Tool?

There are loads of membership tools out there and they all have their pros and cons. In our experience, HubSpot is one of the easiest to manage and maintain and helps to reduce the number of platforms you need to use to fulfill your roles of managing contacts and content.

HubSpot CMS Enterprise is $1200 per month which can be out of the budget for a small association with a low membership base. For smaller associations, you likely don’t need all the bells and whistles as you’ll be able to manually manage your contacts, renewals and content.

If you have a larger membership base for your organization and/or have a lot of members-only content that you want to manage, $1,200 per month can see significant cost savings to what you may currently be paying a VA or management company to manage contacts and renewals, what you have to pay for your website, your CRM, your email marketing tools, and all the other resources that you’ll be using to run a successful and healthy organization.
