How to Build an XML Sitemap in HubSpot

It's very easy to build an XML Sitemap for your HubSpot CMS. Simply navigate to Tools & Settings > Website > Domains & URLs and you'll see a tab on this page called "Sitemap". You can manually add pages to the sitemap but you shouldn't need to as all of your pages should be automatically added to the pages list.

On this page there is an option to "View XML file" that will take you to your XML sitemap page (for example, https://www.cronyxdigital.com/sitemap.xml).

Removing Pages from the XML Sitemap

If you want to pull any of the listed pages from your sitemap, hover over that page on the list and click "Remove".

Advanced XML Sitemap Settings

Clicking the "Options" button on a page will open the Advanced options for the page settings. This is where you can set the Change frequency (how often this page is updated) and the Priority (high to low). While it can be tempting to set every page as updated hourly and top priority, it's not really recommended. Google knows when your pages were last updated (check your XML sitemap, it shows it!) and setting every page as a top priority means that they're all just equal priority.

Why You Should Check Your XML Sitemap

Your XML Sitemap is the map of your website that you give to Google to help them find all the pages on your site that they want indexed. You can also submit your XML Sitemap to Google via Google Search Console and get important feedback from Google about your website. Taking a look at our own Google Search Console data, we can see that Google found 3 pages on our site that aren't indexed and aren't in the sitemap. Digging a bit deeper we can find out what those pages are and resolve any indexing issues they may have.

Image & Media Sitemaps

HubSpot CMS doesn't auto-generate image and media XML sitemaps for your site. While image sitemaps can be a great way to have Google find and index all of your images and give you a bit of an extra visibility boost, not having one isn't going to hurt you. If you have a media rich site and those images and videos are important for driving qualified traffic to your site, there are several great (and free!) sitemap generator tools available.
